Skin is an organ with a public life. Rashes, acne, and spots are visible, so they collect opinions from everyone except, sometimes, a clinician. Skin also reports on the inside: hormones, immunity, medicines, and the sun you have collected over years. Dermatology at Woody Folsom treats both the comfort of the skin and the clues it offers.
Everyday care that is enough for most people
Wash with a gentle cleanser, not a harsh scrub. Moisturize while the skin is still slightly damp. Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen on exposed skin as a daily habit, not only on holidays. Introduce one new product at a time so you can tell what helped and what irritated. Acne responds to consistency over weeks, not to a new routine every three days. Pick at a spot and you trade a temporary bump for a longer mark.
Eczema likes short, lukewarm baths, immediate moisturizer, and fragrance-free products. Psoriasis and other immune rashes need a diagnosis before strong treatments. A rash with fever, a rapidly spreading redness, blistering in the mouth or eyes, or a sore that will not heal should not wait for a casual article.
A spot that changes in size, border, color, or symptom is worth a look, even if it does not hurt.
Sun, checks, and patience
Sun protection is the prevention story with the strongest evidence: shade, clothing, and sunscreen on the skin clothing misses. Examine your skin in a mirror every so often and notice what is new. Clinicians use dermoscopy and, when needed, a biopsy. Most biopsies are brief and answer a question that worry cannot.
Hair and nail changes can belong to thyroid disease, iron deficiency, or fungal infection. Mention them. Mention medicines, including those bought without a prescription, because many rashes are reactions. This article is general education. Your skin's plan should come from an examination, not from a photograph on a screen alone.
